This iz the second male calico that this vet haz seen in over 54 years of practice!
This little guy iz only the second male calico that Dr. Smith of Central Texas Cat Hospital haz seen in hiz 54 years of practice.
“Not only is he a male calico but he is a Scottish Fold on top of that. He really is 1 in a million!” they wrote via Facebook.
One out of every 3,000 calicos iz male. Just like humans, cats haz two sex chromosomes that determine gender. Female cats haz only X chromosomes while male cats haz both X and Y chromosomes. A calico or tortoiseshell must haz two X chromosomes which means the kitty iz going to be female 99.99% of time.
The calico pattern exists in male cats is because the cat has an extra X-chromosome: two X, one Y (male).
So this little guy iz extra rare! What a cutie!
