This shelter is saving thousands of homeless cats by helping them find jobs!
A shelter in Spokane, Washington, has come up with a brilliant idea to care for homeless cats.
Instead of likely being euthanized, they instead help these kitties find a job!
Over 1.5 million cats are euthanized in the U.S. alone every year because they either run out of time or are classified as “unadoptable” due to their behavior issues. The Spokanimal shelter wants to put an end to that, and they thought of a pretty ingenius plan.
The program is called Farm Livin', which gives the kitties an opportunity to do what they do best - being a mouser.
The program pairs cats with cat caring people who own warehouses, farms, or any properties that have rodent issues. The cats are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and given a clean bill of health.
That cats then get to work. It's also been known that once these cats have been introduced, rodents can smell/sense their natural predator - and more often than not - they move elsewhere... or pay the price!
The program has given these "unadoptable cats" a vast improvement in their quality of life. Since 2009, the program has saved over 1,700 cats that would have been euthanized.
Not only do these cats get to fulfill their professional goals, they get a family too to care for them and feed them.
