The oldest cat who ever lived ate THIS everyday... crazy!
Meet Creme Puff, the world's oldest cat ever recorded.
Creme Puff was an American cat who died aged 38 years and 3 days (or 168 cat years!!!). She was the oldest cat ever recorded, according to the 2010 edition of Guinness World Records.
Creme Puff was born on August 3, 1967 and passed on August 6, 2005. This remarkable kitty lived with her owner, Jake Perry, in Austin, Texas. Oddly enough, Perry also owned Granpa, who was claimed to have been born in Paris in 1964 and died in 1998, aged 34 years and 2 months - and was the previous record holder. Granpa was posthumously awarded 1999 Cat of the Year by Cats & Kittens magazine.
How in the world did these cats live so long? Well, many have pondered whether the longevity of Perry's cats may have had something to do with an unusual diet. Their diet included bacon and eggs, asparagus, broccoli, and coffee with heavy cream, among other things.
Some have concluded that Perry must have been doing something right... 38 years??? I still can't believe that!
Now that being said, please don't start feeding your cat this diet so you can break the record. Obviously, there were some other factors at play and this diet seems pretty (very) unhealthy to us for your feline. We think that these cats lived in a stress free home full of love that helped their longevity.
"I used to adopt old, sick and generally seen as unadopatable cats until I ran out of money.. non died before their 20th birthday.. One was given 'a couple of months at most' due to a kidney problem and he ended up living a good 4 years. So I think the deciding factor for old age in cats is stress," one redditor shared.
Reddit user bochu said, "With a diet like that, the cats just didn't want to let go of life."
But... can you imagine how smelly their litter boxes were?...
Consult with your veternarian for the best diet for your cat, as all cats are different!
