Man had to say goodbye to his first cat ever, and shares this touching tribute
This is very touching. Tell your fur babies that you love them every day.
"Yesterday morning, I had to say goodbye to the world's best cat, Berries," Berries' human dad shared on reddit.
"This is Berries, the Best Boy. He was my first cat, and boy, am I ever glad he was, because he was something special."
"I read up a ton on cat behavior and how to be a good owner before he arrived, but this big doofus totally defied all my expectations. I'd only ever had dogs before and was warned multiple times that cats are more standoffish than dogs are; everyone said I shouldn't expect as much closeness from a cat."
"Berries made it unmistakably clear how little he cared about "conventional" cat behavior by being the biggest marshmallow ever. He would wait on the back of the couch by the entryway for my roommate and I to get home, and then as soon as we sat down he'd plant himself right on our laps for petting. He LOVED being petted, anywhere on his body; he was a really cuddly snugglebutt."
"And I'm not exaggerating: he really, REALLY loved to cuddle. Cuddling was more a state of being than an action, for him; 'Oh, humans are home; how was your day, so glad you're back, pet me.'"
"He didn't take well to being ignored, either..."
"He had his normal cat behaviors, of course; the butthole obsession, the laptop-sitting, etc.... He had his flaws, just like anybody else."
"But he was the kindest, gentlest soul, so full of love and warmth, and that was what made him so special. He always seemed to know when something was wrong, and the way he was always there with love and comfort when I needed it made him seem more human than cat. We put him to sleep yesterday morning, after a long battle with lung cancer.
Goodnight, sweet boy; you lived an amazing life, and I feel so privileged to have been part of it. I'll see you on the other side."
Our fur friends become a part of the family, and its never easy letting family go.
All we can do is love them each day and share memories once they're gone.
