World's oldest cat celebrates 31st birthday and is still going strong! (Gallery)
Liz and Ian Finlay took in the five-year-old tabby in 1990. 26 years later, this senior kitty is still going strong!
Meet Nutmeg the cat!
Nutmeg, 141 in cat years, beat the record of 30 in Blaydon, Tyneside.
Nutmeg showed up in the Finlay’s backyard in 1990 and has lived with them ever since.
He rules the house and he’s absolutely gorgeous,” Nutmeg’s humans told The Mirror. "He is a bit grumpier now, and his meow is more like a growl."
Although the tabby has just three teeth left and no longer ventures outside, his owners insist that he is still going strong. Nutmeg even suffered from a very serious stroke last year, but he’s proven that he has the heart of a lion.
"We thought we had lost him and we were very upset, but after a few days in hospital he was back to his normal self," Ian said. "He is a cracking old guy, and is still as cantankerous as ever."
This June, Nutmeg and his family celebrated his 31st birthday together with the Dr. Gillis who saved his life.
“He is not our cat, we are his humans and he never lets us forget that. Maybe that is the secret to his long and happy life.”
