Kittens rescued from fire thanks to photographer at the right place at the right time
Two kittens, trapped by a controlled burn in rural North Dakota, were rescued by a photographer who stopped to take a photo of the fire.
Meet Py and Manni the firefighters
Carlos Pacheco was taking photos by Grandin at the time when he heard meowing coming from the brush fire.
“I walked over to get some different angles, and I heard a cat meowing, and I kinda looked around and I didn’t see anything, so I took a few steps back over to where I was, and it turns out the cat sort of blended in with the trees,” he told KVLY.
One tiny feline was inside, the other was nearby, breathing in too much smoke.
“It was too hot for me to even get close to it, which is why I was surprised that the cat was even in it, ” Pacheco said. “I had to shield myself with my jacket to even attempt to grab her.” He used a stick to pull out the kitten inside.
He took both kittens to get emergency vet care.
When the kittens arrived in the shelter, the staff weren't sure if they would make it.
Luckily Pyro's paws began to heal and Mannie was on the mend as well.
Both kittens are feeling much better now and are happy to be alive.
"They are now together and happy as little clams to have each other back."
Pacheco says he is considering adopting them, but he hopes that wherever they go, they end up together.
Little Py can now run around with her tiny bandages on.
"They are in foster care and doing great. Playing, eating like little chow hounds and drinking water."
These kittens were sadly in the wrong place at the wrong time. But luckily, Carlos was at the right place at the right time.
