A beautiful wild cat you probably never heard of (Gallery)
We’ve heard of lions, tigers, panthers, mountain lions, ocelots, and a few other wild cats that roam our planet.
But one we just found out about, and they are uniquely beautiful.
Meet the jaguarundi!
The jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi) is one of the most unusual of the New World cat species, being somewhat weasel-like in appearance.
“The body is long and slender, with short legs, a small, flattened head, short, rounded ears, and a long tail. Unlike many other small South American cats, the coat lacks spots, but the jaguarundi is probably the most variable in colour of all wild cats,” Arkive shared on their website.
They live mainly in central and South America with some in the southern part of North America.
Their long bodies and expressive faces make them distinct among the cat family.
They are currently labeled as Least Concern on the IUCN red list, but they are still under threat.
We hope by sharing this post, we’ll help spread awareness of another rare feline species we want to see on this planet for a long time.
The world needs more cats!
Share the cute!
