Fluffy therapy cat for child with autism was hit by a car… and now needs our help
Just read Simba's story... he is one extraordinary feline.
“From the day he came home as a fluffy bundle of love, he imprinted on my youngest son Kian who had been born seriously premature leaving him with numerous health problems including heart and lung problems,” Becky Green shared on Simba’s crowdfunding page. “Simba quickly and independently learnt to alarm us as to when Kian was having breathing difficulties and would often alert us before an episode giving them time to have help in place and essentially save Kian's life.”
“Later on when it became increasingly apparent that Kian had social and learning difficulties in the form of Autism. Simba yet again stepped in to help Kian through his darkest times. When Kian self harms, Simba stops him by placing his paws on Kian's hands. When Kian goes in to shut down and won't interact with any of us or leave the house or even drink, Simba sits on his head or next to him and calms him. He takes Kian to bed every night and stays with him until he falls asleep and rushes to him when he wakes. Without Simba, Kian struggles to sleep! He even comes on holiday with us!”
Simba has made Kian and his family's life so much better... but everything changed when Simba was tragically hurt.
“Devastatingly, Simba was ran over on October 9th 2017. His front left leg totally degloved and had a broken ulnar. He was left with multiple fractures and serious damage to his toes.”
Vets told Becky to put Simba down. They told her they could find another therapy cat for Kian. Kian wasn't having it.
He had a total melt down, and poor Simba, using his back legs, crawled over to Kian and laid his head in his lap to comfort him! Simba’s mom knew she had to do everything in her power to save him. She then recruited the help of Fitzpatrick Referrals and Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick.
“He has had numerous operations to rebuild his legs and skin grafts. All the time purring away and never ever being in bad spirits. Kian and I have made the 250 mile round trip nearly every day so they can be together. Simba visibly lifts in spirit and heart when they are reunited. Kian often falls asleep with him on the vets table and cuddles up to him.”
Simba went under countless surgeries to repair his damaged body, and against all odds, Simba came out alive on the other end.
Kian and his family were ecstatic!
But… Simba isn’t out of the woods yet, and as you can imagine, his medical bills are through the roof. Simba still isn’t well enough to return home, but he’s getting close.
'Tis the season of giving, and we feel the iizcat community could do some real good. Let’s help Simba return home and reunite with his best buddy Kian!
Oh, and did we mention that Simba has a fluffy brother who also misses him very much?
